Davis Fine Art, Inc.
Business and Educational Background
The gallery's proprietors, Gerard and Debbie Davis, offer works by artists from the Hoosier Group, Brown County Art Colony, Richmond Group, and other Indiana artists. These works are appreciating dramatically in value as early Indiana art is widely collected. Apart from its investment value, the Davis' true joy in representing Indiana art comes from educating and illuminating the public about Indiana's rich art heritage.
The Davis' started formally representing fine art following their lifetime involvement in art education, production and promotion as well as collecting. Gerard's formal training began with a major in fine art and art education at John Herron School of Art, IUPUI and continued with studies at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel Mexico, as well as in New York City and in Europe. Gerard's early appreciation and focus on Indiana fine art is due to the Davis family's close personal affiliation with several of the early Hoosier masters including Misters Steele, Forsyth, Ms. Goth, as well as Misters Riley, Dickey and Vonnegut. "It amazes me how much creative culture of the very highest quality has come out of this part of the country. From a historical perspective, we are honored to be involved."
Debbie's involvement in marketing and promotion of contemporary, California art continued for over fifteen years. Her gallery, Series 20/20, produced a video, entitled "Visions" that represented twenty of Northern California's finest artists. This video was used as a marketing tool and was presented on PBS. One of Debbie's art show productions at the Paul Mason Winery in Los Gatos, California continues as an annual fund raising event.
Davis Fine Art is a combination of Gerard and Debbie's knowledge and talents with a mission to celebrate Indiana's rich legacy of fine art. "My deep personal connection with the rich heritage, along with my years of formal training have brought me to a unique position of being able to convey to our clients which paintings we believe truly represent the artists abilities. So many collectors question us about purchases they've made elsewhere as to the various qualities. We offer them our own observations on individual merits of a painting, its current market value as well as a comprehensive view of developing a collection as a whole. It is common for collectors, upon returning home from a sale or auction after sometimes spending many thousands of dollars to think, "what have I done?" Most collectors wish to be more knowledgeable about this subject and we freely encourage them to get information from as many sources as possible."
